Lewis named Freshman of the Year

Award winner: Zeiko Lewis

Zeiko Lewis has become the first Boston College player to be named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Freshman of the Year.

Lewis, the Bermuda winger, scored three goals and had 11 assists for his side last season.

The 19-year-old said he was surprised to win the accolade and dedicated the award to his team-mates.

“I feel extremely honoured to be recognised as the ACC Freshman of the Year,” Lewis said.

“I was the first Boston College soccer student to receive this award and I could not have asked for a greater honour not only for myself, but as a representation of the university’s programme.

“I feel as if I owe it to my school and everyone who has believed in me and given me the chance to get to where I am today. I would never have expected to get an award as so high as this.

“The ACC is an extremely competitive league and there were many of extremely talented freshmen that I thought played good against and with me.”

Lewis, who was also voted into the All-ACC Second team and the All-ACC Freshman team, insists there is much more to come from him.

“I do not think that it was the best of seasons for me or my team,” the Young Men’s Social Club player said.

“We had a lot of injuries and little mistakes that we needed to correct, but as the season progressed we started to get better as a unit and started to cause a lot of trouble for other teams. Personally, I do not think that this was my best season and I feel that I have a lot more to offer to my team.

“I will work extremely hard over the summer and the off-season to be better not only for myself, but for my team.”

Boston College finished the regular season with seven wins, seven losses, and two draws, reaching the quarter-final stage of the ACC.

Lewis, who also represented Bermuda Hogges in the Premier Development League, was an integral member of Bermuda’s squad that claimed gold at last summer’s NatWest Island Games.

He scored a brace against Falkland Islands and was also on target in Bermuda’s win over Greenland.
