Cougars targeting a clean sweep

Devonshire Cougars skipper Chris Caisey jr (right) is optimistic his team can come away with the cup in Monday’s Dudley Eve final.

Devonshire Cougars skipper Chris Caisey insists his side won’t take Dandy Town lightly in their Dudley Eve final clash at the National Sports Centre (NSC) on Monday.

The pair clash for the second time in the competition with much more on the line this time around.

Should they triumph, Cougars would possess all of the top-flight domestic trophies — a historic distinction.

Cougars are the current Triple Crown champions (league, FA Cup and Friendship Trophy), and also have in their possession the Charity Cup, with only the Dudley Eve missing from their haul.

Caisey, however, isn’t worried about the implications of the result, but rather getting the result itself.

“We are ready for whatever they throw at us. There isn’t anything we haven’t seen from them before given the amount of times we have played against each other in the past few years,” said Caisey.

“Apart from Rangers, we have played them the most and they are usually in any final we are in so, it will be fascinating.

“The result is important in the sense that we always go out to win, and that won’t be any different. Both sides look to beat the other any chance they get and this won’t be any different.”

Brandon Minors’ 86th minute header completed a dramatic second-half comeback victory for Town in their opening Dudley Eve match against Cougars, after Damon Ming had cancelled out a Domico Coddington penalty.

Given the familiarity of the two clubs, Caisey reckoned that it would be the side who executes their game plan better who wins, rather than the side who make adjustments from previous clashes.

“It’s not the case of doing anything different, we have to stick to what we know how to do and make the most of our chances. The more chances we get the more we have to take each one because they may only get one and that may be the difference in the match.

“We don’t have revenge on our minds from the first meeting between the two teams in this competition, it is more about going out, doing your job and let the result play itself out.”

Kick-off for the match has been moved to 2.30pm to avoid clashing with Monday night’s World Rugby Classic at the neighbouring North Field.

• Champions Cougars are set to play seven of their final 13 league games this season under lights after the Bermuda Football Association released a list of matches brought forward from Sunday to Friday and Saturday nights.

All three night grounds, Devonshire Rec, Goose Gosling Field and Somerset, are impacted as Premier Division sides Cougars, Wolves (who also use Devonshire Rec), Flanagan’s Onions (Goose Gosling Field) and Somerset Trojans will all have matches rescheduled. Cougars will play their matches on Friday nights while Onions and Trojans will have matches brought forward to Saturday night.

Cougars will play PHC next Friday night, before hosting Hamilton Parish the following Friday (22nd), Wolves on November 29 and then Dandy Town on December 6. Wolves will also have matches against Hamilton Parish and Somerset brought forward, before Cougars return to night play against Somerset, North Village and Wolves in January, February and March.

Onions and Trojans both have three matches switched from Sundays to Saturday night.
