States Open Team Table Tennis Championships in Baltimore at the weekend.

The team, consisting of Myron Piper, George Braithwaite, Nick Frost and Cory Berkeley, finished with a record of three victories and five defeats to place 36th out of 180 teams.

Team spokesman Mansfield Smith suggested they could have placed a few positions higher and perhaps with a 5-2 scoreline in their favour had luck gone their way and with more thoughtful selection of players.

Smith felt it was a mistake to drop Braithwaite against a Mexico B team and also Frost against Montco PA.

It was also considered that Piper and Berkeley could beat Mexican women's champion Monica Miramontes, but she defeated both Bermudians in three games.

However, Smith said in the end it was clear that Bermuda needed players of the calibre of Derron Trott, Dexter Smith, Dave Waltham, Frost and an in-form Braithwaite to finish higher in the competition.

In their group, Bermuda II finished 96th but did well in their round robin by winning three and losing four matches with captain Mike Lindo finishing with an 11-8 record.
