Valley come back from behind to sink Hood

Commercial A leaders MR Onions eventually ran out comfortable 7-1 winners against their lower league counterparts Pest Control in the Commerical Cup on Saturday, but it was far from plain sailing in the first half as they struggled to break down a resolute Pest Control defence.

The breakthrough came towards the end of the first half, Sam O'Shaughnessy scoring with a fine strike from the edge of the box. Colin Keane added a second on the stroke of half-time while Pest Control had lost keeper Stephen Watts with a dislocated shoulder. Hank Young pulled up with a suspected broken foot.

The goals flowed more freely in the second half, Keane adding a further three and strike partner Eoghan O'Dwyer a brace.

The best goal of the afternoon came at the other end though, when Noel Gibbons reduced the arrears with a first-time shot from well outside the box which nestled in the corner of the Onions' net.

The visitors also struck the crossbar as a comeback was briefly threatened, but it was the Onions who went through to the quarter-final draw.

Valley pulled off another comeback to beat Robin Hood 2-1. Hood hit the crossbar three times in the first half before Gary Ray converted a Steven Simons cross from a short corner. The Valley goalkeeper made several good saves to keep the game close and was also helped by the woodwork another three times in the second half. Valley's Al Thomas scored two breakaways to snatch a win.

Tuff Dogs buried PHC with a three-goal blitz in as many minutes in the second half to win 4-1. Robert Marques had opened the scoring in the first half while Aaron Brown, Robert Almeida and Kevin Warner fired home in the second before Andre Caines got a late consolation goal.

Dockyard Falcons beat their B division counterparts Vasco 3-2. Gary Trott got two first half goals and Roger Williams one in the second half but a late rally by Vasco's Ricardo Arruda and Joe Barbosa could not save the game.

Devonshire Lions hoped for an upset against BAA after Wali Saaleem scored with 14 minutes on the clock but BAA's Jim Campball bagged two before half-time to seal the win.

St. George's All-Stars beat East End rivals Hamilton Parish 5-3 with a Caisey Burgess first half hat-trick and contributions from John Tucker and Carlos Greaves in the second-half.

Goals from Raymond Outerbridge and Irving Burgess and a Corey Hill penalty kept it competitive.

Lowly Lobster Pot beat Key West Rangers on penalties and Dandy Town Roots and North Village Rams had to rearrange because of a waterlogged St. John's field.
