Allied World’s casualty practice expands

Casualty Expansion: Allied World Bermuda grows its general casualty practice with the addition of two new vice presidents, Kimberly Pursell and Michael Watkins.

Allied World Assurance Company, Ltd this week announced that Allied World Bermuda is expanding its general casualty practice with the addition of two new vice presidents, Kimberly Pursell and Michael Watkins.The general casualty group is led by Patrick Kenahan, senior vice president, Bermuda branch manager for general casualty. Allied World Bermuda has written general casualty since its inception in 2001.“We are excited that Kim and Mike have joined our Bermuda general casualty team,” Mr Kenahan said. “Their extensive experience in the industry will be a great asset as we look to expand our current book. I look forward to working with both of them.”Kimberly Pursell has 22 years of experience in the insurance industry. Prior to joining Allied World, Ms Pursell was senior vice president at Bowring Marsh Bermuda where she handled several large and complex casualty accounts.She began her insurance career in the Marine & Energy department at Marsh as a retail broker placing primary and excess programmes for hull and offshore energy clients. After five years, Kim transitioned to the Marsh Global Broking group to place lead umbrella business for a spectrum of Fortune 1000 clients.Ms Pursell graduated from the University of Richmond with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and holds a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from NYU Stern School of Business.Prior to joining Allied World Bermuda, Mr Watkins was vice president, general liability at Alterra Bermuda Limited [formerly Max Re]. Prior to joining Max Re, he worked at Chubb Atlantic (Bermuda) focusing on mid to high excess Fortune 1000 accounts.Mr Watkins was previously a portfolio underwriter at Liberty Mutual where he underwrote national account lead umbrella business. He began his career as an Excess Umbrella trainee with the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.
