Education Minister meeting with UWI over education opportunities
Education Minister Dame Jennifer Smith is visiting Jamaica to thrash out the details of an agreement with the University of the West Indies.Last year former Premier Ewart Brown, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University’s Vice-Chancellor.Dame Jennifer said the purpose of the trip was to determine and fine tune the details of Bermuda’s relationship “so students can be made aware in time for the MOU’s effective date of September 2011, the beginning of the academic year”.An Education statement said: “It is the Minister’s intent, after her return, to inform students and the public of educational opportunities for September and to provide Cabinet with full details of the opportunities arising from Bermuda’s associated status with the University of the West Indies.”Dame Jennifer is in Jamaica with Duranda Greene, President of the Bermuda College, and Permanent Secretary Warren Jones and Policy Analyst Kimberley McKeown.
