Free breakfasts return to Harrington Sound Primary
A human rights charity is reigniting a free breakfast programme in an eastern primary school.
Bermuda Is Love, in partnership with Rosewood Bermuda, will bring meals to Harrington Sound Primary School every Thursday for the rest of the year starting this month.
Aaron Crichlow, a founder of Bermuda Is Love, said the meals were part of the charity’s wider school breakfast programme and would expand to other days and schools.
He added: “We believe food is a human right and no child should have to start the school day hungry.
“The continued partnership with Rosewood Bermuda allows us to provide a consistent breakfast to students at Harrington Sound while continuing to build towards a future where every child in Bermuda has reliable access to nutritious food at school.”
The breakfast programme was first tested at Harrington Sound Primary during the last term of the 2025-26 school year.
Following its success, Bermuda Is Love and Rosewood announced a continuation of their partnership with the school throughout this academic year.
A spokesman for the charity said volunteers would provide balanced breakfasts to include fresh fruit, beverages and hot and cold meals.
It is hoped that the shared dining space will encourage inclusion and a sense of belonging among pupils.
Mr Crichlow said: “As food insecurity continues to impact families across Bermuda, programmes like this are essential to ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.
“Research consistently shows that children who eat a healthy breakfast demonstrate improved concentration, stronger academic performance, better attendance and enhanced physical wellbeing.”
Bermuda is Love’s breakfast programme extends to Elliot Primary School, where pupils are given free meals three days a week.
The Free Breakfast Programme is also set to launch weekly at Victor Scott Primary School and Preschool this month.
Every pupil can participate in the feeding programme without registration, payment or identification to help avoid a sense of stigma.
The charity said it hoped to one day offer meals to all schools across Bermuda.
The spokesman said: “Achieving that vision will require continued collaboration between schools, businesses, community organisations, government, donors and individuals.
“Bermuda Is Love welcomes support through volunteering, financial contributions, operational assistance, logistics and advocacy.
“The shared goal is simple — no child in Bermuda should start the school day hungry.”
Patrick Graham, the managing director of Rosewood Bermuda, said the volunteer work was part of the restaurant’s commitment to helping island residents.
He said: “At Rosewood Bermuda, we believe our responsibility extends beyond the property into the local community.
“We are committed to empowering the next generation of Bermudians by supporting initiatives that make a direct impact on their lives.
“We are proud to partner with Bermuda is Love to ensure each student can start their day with the nutrition and support needed to succeed in the classroom and beyond.”
