A report, tabled in the Senate on Wednesday, detailed an award of $103,000 to a 33-year-old woman who was thrown out of a taxi for eating a burger and then picked up by a man on a moped who then raped her.

However the woman was only paid $70,000 as that was the maximum pay-out at that time, although it has since been upped to $100,000.

A 19-year-old woman was given $36,580 after suffering years of physical and psychological abuse from her father while a 52-year-old man, who suffered a detached retina and permanent vision loss after being struck by a bottle-wielding woman who had come to his home, was given more than $38,000.

A 29-year-old man who was tortured for hours in a basement in St. Monica's Mission was given more than $37,000. The man, who was attacked with sticks and machetes, stomped on and burned with melted plastic and a heated screwdriver suffered head injuries, a lacerated liver, a ruptured spleen, a torn stomach, a ruptured duodenum and third degree burns. His psychologist described severe psychological problems following a "near-death" experience.

A builder who rowed with a fellow worker about loud rap music on site was awarded $16,000 after suffering lasting vertigo and headaches which restricted his work after the colleague dropped a concrete block on him.

And a 55-year-old woman who was sexually and physically assaulted by a man she used to work with who forced his way into her home was given $13,000 and a 15-year-old repeatedly kicked in the head at a party was given nearly $13,000 after suffering injuries including a shattered cheekbone.
