Art lovers urged to vote for their favourite Masterwork

Art lovers will have the opportunity to cast their votes at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art on New Year’s Day, with a $1,000 prize going to the winner of the Peoples’ Choice prize.

The gallery, in the Botanical Gardens, will open its doors from 12pm to 3pm on Wednesday.

The competition follows on from October’s Charman Prize of $10,000, according to museum founder Tom Butterfield, which was awarded to photographer Teresa Kirby Smith.

“The Peoples’ Choice is for people to come and vote for their favourite artwork [within the gallery], to see if they agree or disagree with the [Charman Prize] judges,” Mr Butterfield explained. The $1,000 was raised by volunteers.

The news comes soon after Masterworks and Mr Butterfield appeared in an article in Canada’s Times Colonist — about Bermuda’s long-standing tradition as a haven for painters from overseas.
