Hamilton man sues police

Mr. Mark Hendrickson, of Princess Street, Hamilton, has filed a Supreme Court writ against Police Commissioner Mr. Lennie Edwards for the return of the cash.
It is understood Police searched Mr. Hendrickson's premises some months ago and found the money. But it is not believed that he has been charged with any offence relating to the cash.
Mr. Hendrickson, a client of law firm Smith, Barnard and Diel, is the second man to sue the Police recently.
Pembroke resident Mr. Anthony Joseph O'Neill Pitcher Jr. has filed a writ against the Commissioner and Det. Con. Terence Maxwell for assault and battery, wrongful arrest and false imprisonment.
CABBIE FOILS THIEF CRM Cabbie foils thief A taxi driver foiled a handbag-snatcher after chasing him down a Hamilton street on Wednesday.
The would-be thief dropped the tourist's bag as the courageous cabbie gained ground on him.
The incident occurred at around 1.30 a.m. on Pitts Bay Road.
Two women from Canada were walking towards Rosemont Avenue when they were approached from behind by two youths. The snatch was spotted by the cabbie who immediately gave chase.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident. Anyone with information should call Acting Detective Chief Inspector Adams at Central CID.
JEWELLERY RAID CRM Jewellery raid Burglars stole $500 in cash and jewellery from a home in Radnor Close, Hamilton Parish. The jewellery included a ladies gold ring with a round ruby surrounded by a leaf pattern. A quantity of photographic equipment and cash were stolen from the Garden Grove Apartments in Paget. The equipment included a Canon EOS 1000 SLR camera and two lenses.
BANKER BANNED CTS Banker banned A bank worker was fined $400 and disqualified from driving for 12 months in Magistrates' Court. Lawrence Joseph Kleine of Town Hill Road, Smith's, pleaded guilty to the charge of driving while impaired.
Police Sgt. Rex Osborne, prosecuting, told the court that on July 19, Kleine lost control of his cycle on North Shore Road, Pembroke, and collided with a guard rail. Attending Police officers submitted the 30-year-old to an alco-analyser test, which he failed to complete.
SAILOR FINED CTS Sailor fined A British sailor living on a yacht in Hamilton Harbour pleaded guilty to a charge of marine speeding when he appeared in Magistrates' Court this week.
Edward Geoffrey West, 22, was caught by Police on July 17 travelling at 20 knots between Mill Point and Agar's Island, Pembroke.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis handed down a $150 fine after West declined to say anything to the court.
THIEVES BUSY CRM Thieves busy A thief who broke into the office of a tourist facility in Pembroke escaped with $500 in cash.
Police have also reported break-ins at two tourist apartments in Paget. An intruder was disturbed before stealing anything from one, but $325 was taken from the other. A theft of $150 has been reported from a Pembroke restaurant.
STUDENT FINED CTS Student fined The summer vacation ended on a sour note for one Warwick Academy student this week. Melissa Stewart of Wefo Road, Sandys Parish, was fined $120 in Magistrates' Court after pleading guilty to speeding.
The 16-year-old was clocked at 59 kph in Southampton on July 13. It was her first offence.
CANNABIS FOUND CTS Cannabis found A manila envelope containing cannabis cost a Warwick man $100 in Magistrates' Court.
Dennis Edward Steede pleaded guilty to possessing 0.3 grams of the drug.
Police found the cannabis on the 39-year-old painter after he was stopped on June 17. The envelope containing the drug was concealed in a pack of cigarettes.
