Hungry passengers enjoy taste of Island generosity
Two passenger planes have been forced to make emergency landings at Bermuda in the past two days.
A MyTravel charter plane flying from Manchester, England to the Dominican Republic was diverted after a medical emergency onboard on Monday morning.
The plane touched down at Bermuda International Airport at 10.20 a.m. and a 20-year-old woman who had fallen unconscious on the flight was taken by ambulance to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital along with a travelling companion.
The remaining passengers resumed their flight around 1 p.m
On Sunday hungry passengers were fed sandwiches and soft drinks at the Airport after a Boeing 757 aircraft suffered an engine failure 200 miles west of Bermuda and was diverted to the Island.
The American Airlines flight was flying from Newark to Puerto Rico when it suffered a problem in its right front engine at lunchtime on Sunday and was diverted to Bermuda where it landed shortly after 1 p.m.
There were 181 passengers onboard with one meal planned for passengers. While waiting to continue their journey they were given sandwiches and soft drinks by Airport staff working with the restaurant employees and snack boxes were also given to younger passengers.
An American Airlines 757 plane that touched down from New York later the same day and was due to fly out again yesterday was instead re-assigned to take the stranded passengers to San Juan, Puerto Rico and departed Bermuda at 10.55 p.m. on Sunday.
