Tear covered the gruelling 55-mile course in two hours, 26 minutes and nine seconds in easily the most competitive division in the championships. Crossing the finish line in second and third spots with the same time were Dana Henry and Dwyer Williams.

Two seconds behind and in fourth place was Jeff Payne and trailing closely behind was Greg Hopkins and Steve Doyling, both at eight seconds, in fourth and fifth places respectively.

Mervyn Van Putten sewed up the Novice Division when he completed the 36 miles in one hour, 36 minutes and 40 seconds. A distant five minutes and eight seconds behind was MacInnes Looby, good enough for second place with Durwood Cann cracking the top three at nine minutes, 50 seconds behind Van Putten.

In fourth place was Daryl Bean at 14 minutes and 53 seconds with Alvis Brangman in fifth, behind one lap, one minute and 20 seconds. Aaron Belboda completed the race in sixth spot, a full lap, six minutes and 55 seconds behind the leader. Devio Bonome, behind one lap, 10 minutes and seven seconds, was seventh-place finisher.

Richard Mason captured the veterans division, completing the 36-mile race in one hour, 36 minutes and 40 seconds.

Vic Ball, five minutes and eight seconds behind the leader, was second, with Luis Muso in third place, eight minutes and 53 seconds behind.

Lynne Devine was crowned champion of the women's division, covering the 221 -mile course in one hour, six minutes and 58 seconds.

Grant Smith was the toast of the juniors division when he completed 221 miles in one hour, one minute and 15 seconds. Trevor Hedges, with the same time, was second with Adam Smith, at 37 seconds behind, in third. Kris Hedges was in fourth spot, five minutes and 43 seconds behind the leader.
