Sweet feats

A dazzling array of Christmas confections were on display at the Elbow Beach hotel this week during the Gingerbread House competition.

For her two-storey, snow covered gingerbread house ? complete with carollers ? Emma Truman won two round trip tickets to New York including four nights at a hotel for winning the best adult amateur prize.

But there was no second place in the children?s category as the house of Georgina and Luke Bell and the house of Phoebe Barboza both came up tops.

The child winners all won private birthday parties at the hotel for ten people including lunch and a magician.

In the school category, the best baked-biscuit house belonged to Bermuda High School for Girls? Primary Three, who also won a private party with lunch at Elbow Beach for 15 of their classmates.

Gingerbread judges stood on firm ground with Cooper & Gardner architect Duncan Robson at the helm with Department of Tourism Manager of Promotional Services Jonelle Christopher taking the second judges spot and Elbow Beach?s own executive sous chef, Rick Bartram rounding out the team.

The gingerbread houses were judged on: reflection of a Christmas theme, creativity, stability and structural soundness, and the majority of the house had to be made with a food product, Elbow Beach?s communications manager Erica Martin said.
