(after extra time) Prospect put the clamps on Spinning Wheel's brave FA Cup drive yesterday.

But it took a goal from midfielder Michael Thomas 13 minutes into extra-time for them to do so.

Thomas' clinical finish from 12 yards was the reward for superior fitness as Prospect piled on the pressure during the final 30 minutes.

For 81 minutes, however, the Raiders' dreams of an improbable victory at Police Field remained alive.

A 21st minute goal by striker Allan Fray raised the Commercial Division team's hopes of maintaining a proud record in the competition.

Spinning Wheel have regularly made it to the first round, and once even reached the quarter-finals before losing to PHC.

Fray struck after Prospect's 'keeper Andrew Bissell could only parry a fierce 20-yard shot from striker Des Minors.

The ball fell into Fray's path, who made no mistake from two yards.

It was a goal which Spinning Wheel deserved after carrying the fight to their Second Division opponents.

And it was just the start they needed, given the question mark over the fitness of some of their players.

Prospect's back four regularly got caught napping by the long ball in the opening 45 minutes, and their midfielders paid the penalty for not passing quickly enough.

Ten minutes after the restart Prospect made a double substitution with Dwayne Leverock replacing Dwight Johnson up front, and midfielder Tracy Adams coming on for Edward Smith.

It was a move aimed at capitalising on their superior conditioning which saw Raiders being pinned back more and more in their own half.

And it paid off in the 81st minute when Leverock headed home a corner by Andrew Rollins.

Both teams came close to scoring in the dying minutes of normal time as shots crashed against the woodwork, but there was inevitability about the result once referee Leroy Wilson blew for extra-time.

Social Club 3 Lobster Pot 1 Social Club made hard work of Commercial Division outfit Lobster Pot before finally prevailing and moving into the first round of the FA Cup.

Unfancied Pot, despite lacking in the pace and skill departments, managed to hold the more mobile Bluebirds at bay for two thirds of the match, but in the end were exposed as second rate through a late flurry.

Particularly troublesome to Pot was livewire winger Randy Spence, who wreaked havoc all afternoon, constantly forcing Pot's defence on their heels with his mazy runs along the flank.

And it was Spence who finally presented Social Club with the opportunity to take the lead, after he was hacked down in the penalty area by Bobby Keill.

Captain Shawn Laws promptly stepped up and planted the resulting spot kick past goalkeeper Rick Morris, giving his side a deserved lead.

Pot were by now a spent bunch, as Social Club camped in the opposing half, rarely allowing a moment's rest for the overworked defence.

The lead was doubled in the 82nd minute as substitute Troy Saunders scored from what appeared an impossible angle on the right.

Picking up a ball near the halfway line, Saunders eluded two defenders before lifting his head and shooting from the finest of angles near the goal-line.

Morris, supposedly protecting the near post, somehow allowed the ball to squeeze between himself and the upright.

Three minutes later another substitute Rembert Hill justified his introduction, scoring with a deflected shot following a scramble in the penalty area.

Pot notched a consolation tally in the 86th minute when Joe Barbosa planted a close range free kick into the bottom left corner.

There was further misery for Pot as Alan Mooney was ejected for swearing two minutes from time.

Exiles 1 Forties 5 Forties continued their fine run in the FA Cup as they brushed aside the challenge of fellow Commercial Division team Exiles at PHC Stadium yesterday.

Two Andrew Robinson goals together with one each from Roy Fellows, Jorg Wolf and Carlos Lee were more than enough to see off Exiles, who had Edwin Ford as their lone marksman.

However, the match was closer than the score indicated, with the two battling to a stalemate for most of the first half, before a late explosion by Forties saw them seize the lead.

Wolf was the first to find the back of the net in the 40th minute and was followed onto the scoresheet seconds later by Carlos Lee.

Woozy from the double blow, Exiles still managed to hit back to halve the deficit through an Edwin Ford strike a minute from the interval.

The two goal advantage was restored 10 minutes into the second half when Robinson scored the first of his goals, running free of the defence and slotting the ball past an exposed Lyndon Raynor in goal for Exiles.

After 76 minutes it was the lumbering Robinson again outstripping Exiles' back four before delicately chipping the ball over an advancing Raynor.

It was then left for Roy Fellows to complete the scoring four minutes from time with a curling right foot shot from 25 yards that sailed in to the left of Raynor.

There was no play in the scheduled game between Port Royal and Island Rangers at Frog Lane yesterday.

Referee Richard Knight deemed that the field was unfit for play because the lines on the pitch had not been clearly marked.

Efforts to secure the neighbouring Devonshire Rec. field proved unsuccessful.

The match will be rescheduled.
