Taxi driver robbed by armed men

A taxi driver and a pizza delivery man were lured to ambushes where armed men robbed them in separate incidents on Monday evening.

At around 9 p.m. a taxi driver reported being robbed in Town Hill Road, Smith's by several young men brandishing machetes and baseball bats after taking a passenger there who had hailed the cab in North Shore Road, near Shelly Bay.

The 50-year-old victim, from St. George's, lost $250 in the incident and was treated for a bruise to his forearm but it is unclear how the injury occurred.

The men, who had appeared from bushes, ran off towards Harrington Sound Road.

The main suspect, who rode in the taxi, is described as a young-looking dark-skinned male. Witnesses are asked to call St. George's CID on 297 1122.

Police are also investigating a robbery of a Four Star Pizza delivery man in Mariners Lane, Pembroke who was called there at 9.40 p.m.

When he arrived and began searching for the customer's home a man called out to him.

When he went over he found a man brandishing a baseball bat and demanding money.

Several other masked men then appeared from bushes armed with baseball bats and machetes.

The suspects took the victim's wallet containing $150 cash and a Four Star Pizza pouch with $105.

The suspects also took the bike keys off the 22-year-old victim from Pembroke before kicking his bike over and running off. Witnesses should call Hamilton CID on 295-0011.
