Police appeal for crash passenger

Police are hunting a man they believe made off from the scene of a serious road accident last weekend.

Officers believed four people were travelling in a car which lost control overtaking and ploughed into the porch of a Paget house.

But it has now come to light that a fifth person, believed to be a man, was in the vehicle and is thought to have run off. The accident happened at about 3.40 a.m. last Sunday on Middle Road near Bostock Hill East.

The driver, 23, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in a serious condition and was last night still in intensive care, where he was described as stable. Two others taken to hospital have now been discharged and a third is stable in a general ward.

Police spokesman Robin Simmons said: ?We believe that there was a fifth person in the car who was not there when police arrived and we want to talk to them.?

The man or anyone who thinks they know him should call P.c. Gregory White on 299-4538.
