Man jailed for 5 years for gas station break-in

A Warwick man was sentenced to five years in prison for breaking into Warwick gas station on November 4 last year.

Germel Dennis Williams, 33, of Khyber Heights Lane, had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge. Police found his fingerprints on the four louver panes of glass he had removed to enter the gas station while a security camera also helped identify him.

He had taken $1,304 worth of goods from the gas station, including 120 refillable lighters and $95 worth of ice cream.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said Williams had 17 convictions for dishonesty offences and had been sentenced two months ago to three years in prison for stealing a motor bike which had more than $1,000 hidden inside.

Ms Clarke called for a sentence of four to six years while Williams, who appeared without a lawyer, chose not to address Puisne Judge Ian Kawalay who sentenced him to five years and urged him to change his ways.
