Local man chased robbers in Toronto
A Bermudian has been featured on Canadian TV for trying to catch street robbers who mugged two women in downtown Toronto.
Milton Hill was on his way to work as a security guard yesterday morning when he saw the robbery near China Town and gave chase on his pedal cycle but the muggers evaded him.
He had gone to the aid of the Chinese women and feared the worst when he thought he saw blood on the face of one of the victims ? a 70-year-old ? who was had been knocked to the ground. However he learned that it was pepper spray used to subdue the woman while the mugger grabbed the bag. He then chased the robbers but was frustrated not to get hold of them, although he was prepared.
He told : ?I always carry hand cuffs with me because of my security work. I only broke off when I lost sight of them.
?Then they have the advantage, anything can become a weapon but before that point I wasn?t concerned. They went through on a really, really narrow lane which I could not get through on my handlebars.?
Mr. Hill added: ?I was trying to run them down. The robber definitely knew he was being chased.?
Mr. Hill, 41, originally from Warwick, has experience of grappling with hooligans having won a Police commendation in 1995 for helping an officer arrest a man who was attacking him with a bike helmet.
Yesterday Toronto?s City TV conducted an interview with Mr. Hill who was pictured sitting on his cycle. Mr. Hill said the two women were unhurt but shaken. The 70-year-old lost about $100 cash while her companion, in her 50s, had no money in the bag which was taken.
