Junior golfers shine again
competition, this time at the Willo-Dell Junior Open held at the Willo-Dell Golf and Country Club at Niagara Falls in Ontario.
Laura Robinson, Thomas Edwards and Scott Roy all grabbed second place in their respective age groups, Edwards and Roy both earning spots in next week's Canadian Junior Championships where eight other Bermuda players will also compete.
Sixteen year-old Robinson, already qualified for the Canadian Juniors, led the girls' division after a first round of 83, but then fired an 85 in the second round and was beaten by Pennsylvania's Susan Oliver, 19, who carded an excellent 75.
Oliver finished the 36-hole event on 159 and Robinson on 168.
Stephanie Lewis, 16, returned rounds of 89 and 85 for a 174 total and sixth place overall while 14-year-old Ebonie Burgess carded 180 (94-86) to place ninth.
In the boys' 12-14 division, also over 36 holes, Edwards returned the best final round of 73 to follow an opening round of 80. But his 153 total was seven behind winner Anthony Manna from Richmond Hill, Ontario.
Bermuda's Andy Boyce finished in third place just a shot behind Edwards on 154 (75-79).
In the 15-16 division, Doug Markey and Steven Roy were the best of five Bermuda competitors, both carding 157 totals to finish in a tie for sixth.
Anthony Smith (162) placed 15th and David Boyce and Sergio Edness (167) in a tie for 19th.
Scott Roy placed second in the 17-18 division, but his scores were not immediately available.
Bermuda's full team for next week's Canadian Juniors is Steven Roy, Scott Roy, Thomas Edwards, Nick Dunkle, Stephanie Lewis, Laura Robinson, David Boyce, Eric West, Fraser Hunt and Andy Boyce.
