Trio in court deny machete attack on Flatts barbershop
Three men allegedly responsible for a machete attack at the Flatts Village barbershop have pleaded not guilty to a string of charges.
Earl Ingemann, 20, Rasheed Muhammad, 20, and Marico Bassett, 18, are accused of wounding Al-Rashid Ebbin with intent to do him grievous bodily harm in the incident last November 28.
They are further alleged to have possessed a machete in Flatts Village, and possessed a baseball bat, penknife and incapacitant spray in Hamilton Parish on the same date.
Ingemann alone is charged with misusing telephone facilities at some point between November 1 and November 28 through uttering the menacing words: "I don't want me and my goons run up in your shop."
After hearing the trio deny all the charges during the monthly arraignments session at Supreme Court yesterday, Chief Justice Richard Ground bailed the men and set October 19 for their trial.
In other matters dealt with during the arraignments session, Macai Bean, 24, of Sandys, pleased not guilty to conspiring with others to import heroin and cannabis between a date unknown and September 1 last year. He further denied possessing the drugs with intent to supply on September 1. The Chief Justice set August 4 as the date for his trial and bailed him in the meantime.
Shawn Gibson, 34, of Southampton Parish pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to Daniel Wilks on April 13 last year by driving a motorcycle while impaired through alcohol or drugs. He further denied driving a motorcycle on South Road while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failing to comply with a demand for a breath sample on the same date. He was bailed until the next arraignments session on August 3.
Kevin Fox, 24, of Pembroke, pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to Leigh Thurston on May 2 this year. Mr. Thurston, who was aged 27 at the time, allegedly suffered a broken jaw during an early-hours street assault. Fox's trial was set for September 1 and he was bailed in the meantime.
A 45-year-old Southampton man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denied committing a serious sexual assault that caused bodily harm on April 14 this year. He was bailed until the next arraignments session on August 3.
