Visiting pros steal motocross thunder

weekend, clinching the top two spots in the 125 B class of the second Spring Classic.

Sunny spring weather with a watered down track set the stage for some exciting racing as American Clint Shealy won the first two motos and placed second in the third while Canadian Mitch Cooke had two seconds and a first.

Shealy hails from Gainesville, Florida while Cook is from Nova Scotia.

Local rider Jamel Pitcher was leading the first moto until the end of the `washboard' section where he was knocked down, allowing the two guest riders to pass and make a breakaway for the finish. Otis Ingham and Jamel Hassell also overtook Pitcher to finish third and fourth.

Shealy (18) and Cook (16) also finished first and second in the second moto, with Shealy turning lap times in the 49-50 second bracket. Cook won the final moto after Shealy was slowed by a rear flat, though he was still able to hold onto second spot over Pitcher and Ingham.

In the 125 C class, Chris Hassell won his first races ever to take class honours. Hassell had two firsts and a third while Graham Sutherland was second in all three motos and Nicholas Hassell, who missed the first two motos, took the third to deny Chris his first hat-trick.

Loronzo Burch ran away with the first 80cc moto from start to finish for his fourth straight win. Gary Cann and Aaron Cannonier placed second and third before Cannonier added two wins to pip Burch for the day's honours.

Burch was runner-up with two seconds while Anthony Grant placed third for the second week running.

Gary Cann was victorious in the 60cc class with three wins which took his total to 41 for the season, four short of Steven Panchaud's record of 45.

Cann is also in a tie with Panchaud for third in the all-time wins at 145, just behind Robbie Smith on 155.

Tullio Escolastica came second in the 60cc with three seconds while Zahkie McIntosh pipped Jonte Smith for third.

Zahkie Iris won the 50cc class with three firsts with Chad Sutherland second and Luke Parker third.
