Rangers and Bay draw nail-biter

Bailey’s Bay, 182 for nine, drew with Southampton Rangers, 182 all out.Lateef Trott trapped Shannon Raynor lbw with just four balls of this remarkable game remaining to earn his side a draw and deny Southampton Rangers a much-needed win in a thrilling affair at Southampton Oval.Trott’s wicket brought an end to Raynor’s fine innings and plunged the defending champions deeper into relegation trouble. With Devonshire Rec beating bottom-club PHC, Rangers have now been cut adrift at the bottom and their hopes of Premier Division survival could now come down to their visit to Devonshire Rec on Saturday.Raynor’s sparkling innings of 70 helped revive Rangers after they had lost top bat Janeiro Tucker for a duck and the score at 82 for four as they chased a winning target of 183.However, Raynor arrived to knock the rhythm off the inspired bowling attack an innings which included necessary defiance when needed and then unleashing with some ferocious strokes against all bowlers, finishing with three fours and six sixes to take his team to within a whisker of victory. One can understand Bay’s great enthusiasm because defeat was staring them right in the face with Raynor needing just a single to wrap up the contest with four balls left, however, Trott had a trick left up his sleeve and slipped a quicker one through his defences and sent him heading back to the pavilion as last bat Ryan Belboda watched dazzled at the other end.Raynor’s top league knock of the season was timely, coming when things looked rather bleak for the home side.It looked grim when Tucker drove a sizzling drive heading for six at mid-wicket but taken by Tre Govia off Rodney Trott, but Raynor steadied the ship and set them on course where they were able to offer a spirited challenge.Raynor himself was dropped at 151 for seven when Burton Trott failed to hold on to a crisp return catch, otherwise the burly batsman virtually dominated the bowler although he had to watch spinner Rodney Trott carefully. Also contributing to the score were Kwame Tucker with 26, Curtis Jackson 36, Quinton Burch 13 the former two helping after they lost skipper Dion Stovell (1) with the total on one.Lateef Trott was the chief wicket taker for Bay with three for 21 off 10 overs while Rodney Trott took two for 21 off 10 overs with two maidens and Burton Trott claimed two for 28 off eight overs with two maidens.Earlier Bay had a slow start when they lost openers Garnell Hollis (0) and Terryn Fray (6) with just 12 runs scored, but they managed to recover with decent knocks from skipper Stephen Outerbridge with 19, Donnico Hollis 25, Rodney Trott 37, Ryan Steede 48 and Kyle Hodsoll 14.Skipper Dion Stovell led Rangers bowling attack with two for 37 off 10 overs and a maiden.
