This lavish function was co-hosted by the Bermuda government and the island's international business industry.

Raymond Medeiros of Bermuda International Business Association said most attendees of this annual function were clients of the industry in Bermuda. The reception is viewed by the industry and Government as a way to thank these clients for choosing the Island and an opportunity for networking in relaxed and sophisticated surroundings.

Robin Spencer-Arscott, of the island's RIMS committee, introduced Premier Jennifer Smith on the ballroom's stage. She then welcomed everyone to the reception and and expressed her appreciation of all the work and business being done. Finance Minister Eugene Cox and Minister of Telecommunications and E-Commerce Renee Webb were also at the reception.

People moved around the ballroom to a background of blues music and there was a buffet of both hot and cold food and a number of bars serving drinks. A magnificently laid out cold buffet captured everyone's attention, particularly the series of ornately carved melons placed among the dishes of food.

The decor of the room was arranged by Neal Southam from AAC Saatchi and Saatchi in Bermuda and can best be described as tastefully lavish. A moongate was erected at the entrance, surrounded by palm trees and tropical plants.

Enormous displays of exotic tropical flowers were placed high on pedestals around the room and the lighting, from huge chandeliers, was soft and gentle.
