Wreck Hill Estate to be auctioned
Estate is to be sold at auction.
The 24-acre estate near Somerset goes under the hammer on October 21, on instructions from entertainment mogul and owner Mr. Robert Stigwood.
Bermuda Realty Co. Ltd. is advertising the auction, with photographs of the Wreck Hill peninsula and exterior and interior shots of the 12-room, Georgian Colonial main house.
The "unique and important property'' also features "a large boat house, swimming pool complex, guest cottage, all-weather tennis court, staff cottage, and other service buildings within beautifully-manicured gardens and grounds'', reads the ad, which appeared recently in The Royal Gazette .
The home, which Mr. Stigwood purchased in 1978, has been off and on the market since about 1990.
The producer of blockbuster films like `Grease' and `Saturday Night Fever' has reportedly sought as much as $21 million for the 200-year-old estate.
The size of any reserved bid on the property was not known yesterday.
Mr. Stigwood, 61, has spent little time at Wreck House since purchasing Barton Manor on the Isle of Wight in 1991. The former home of King Edward VII includes 107 acres and a large vineyard.
But he spent several thousand dollars fixing up his Bermuda retreat before the Duchess of York arrived for a holiday with daughters Eugenie and Beatrice at the end of May.
In March, Australian-born Mr. Stigwood did the Duchess a favour by giving a paralysed British boxer and his family an all-expenses paid stay at Wreck House.
The gift for 41-year-old Mr. Gary Davidson, who is paralysed from the neck down, was at the request of the Duchess, who is president of Britain's Motor Neuron Association.
