Heartbroken US widow: ?I have lost the love of my life?

Police have ruled out foul play in the death of an American tourist who was found dead in his room at the Wyndham Resort & Spa on Thursday.

Louis Robert Barry, 48 of Joppa, Maryland, was in Bermuda on a business trip with Acadia Windows and Doors and had never before been to Bermuda.

He is survived by his wife Deborah, four daughters and four grandchildren.

?Mrs. Barry is not taking it well,? family friend Pam Short said yesterday.

?She has lost the love of her life. It is a big loss for all of us. There is no way you can replace that.?

?He was just so loved,? his wife Deborah Barry said last night.

?He was involved with thousands of people in the community up here at the Essex Motorcycle Club.

?He was involved with helping people with their serenity.? Ron Short, who was staying at the Wyndham last week with Mr. Barry, said his friend loved riding motorcycles around the US with his wife.

?He had a lot of buddies up here,? Mr. Short said. ?Family was very important to him.

He raised his family to a high standard.?

Last night, the family did not know how Mr. Barry died. Bermuda?s American Consulate will be informing them early next week, they said.

However, they specifically said the cause of death was ?not food poisoning?.

The reason for their concern was that both Mr. Barry and Mr. Short had terrible diarrhoea on Wednesday, the night before they were due to leave Bermuda.

She said Mr. Barry also was vomiting and had the cold sweats the night before he died.

?We had dinner on Henry VIII up on the hill,? Mr. Short said. ?Three hours after we ate I got sick really, really bad. Thirty minutes after Lou called and said he was sick too. I asked him if he wanted me to come down, but he said I?ll be okay. The house doctor was coming up. Ten minutes later I saw an ambulance come into the parking lot. I had to go see what was going on. I knew something was wrong.

?I went up to his room with the ambulance attendants and three firemen were in the room. They had him on oxygen. The house doctor was there. Ron was on the phone to his wife. He said he didn?t want to go to the hospital. The ambulance attendant said if something changed to call and they would come back. I left him on the phone to his wife. I told him I would see him in the morning,? he said.

?I was thirsty, I was dried out. So I bought two bottles of water and tried to drop one off at his room but he did not answer the door. I thought he was still on the phone to his wife or in the bathroom.?

The following morning they were supposed to meet at the airport, but Mr. Barry did not show.

Mr. Short was informed of his friend?s death by Police at the Airport who drove him back to the hotel where they took a statement.

?The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 48-year-old Louis Robert Barry of Maryland, USA was as a result of natural causes,? Police said yesterday. ?Mr. Barry was found in an unresponsive state around 12.35 p.m. on Thursday in a room at a Southampton guest property.

?The Bermuda Police Service extends its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased,? it said.
