Woman defrauded Capital G bank of $53,000
A woman is facing jail after defrauding Capital G bank of $53,307.
Lisa Marie Dawson obtained the money during September and October 2004 by pretending there were sufficient funds in a business account of House of Style Furniture to cover a string of Bank of Butterfield cheques.
Dawson, 38, of Aubrey Road, Hamilton Parish, pleaded guilty to 13 out of 20 charges she faced of obtaining money by deception during an appearance before Chief Justice Richard Ground at Supreme Court yesterday.
The other seven charges alleged that she defrauded Capital G of a further $99,172. However, her pleas of not guilty on these matters were accepted by Director of Public Prosecutions Rory Field. Mr. Justice Ground ordered that these matters should lie on file, not to be proceeded with without the permission of the court.
Mr. Justice Ground bailed Dawson and ordered pre-sentence reports, warning her: "There's a real possibility in this case of a custodial sentence."
In a separate case during the monthly arraignments session, Barbara Dawnette Wilma Eve pleaded guilty to stealing two credit cards and using them to obtain $3,662 of goods.
Eve admitted that during May 2006 she stole a MBNA Bank of America credit card from Karen Brownlee and used it to buy two cell phones from Cellular One worth a total of $449.
She also admitted stealing an Elevations Credit Union credit card from Robyn Fridberg the following month and using it to obtain four alloy car rims and tyres from Autobahn Accessories, worth $2,650.
Finally, Eve admitted to stealing a Merrill Lynch credit card from Pamela Lederer in August 2006. She used it to buy seven shirts, four pairs of trousers, four pairs of socks, two bags, two jackets, a blazer, a pair of clogs and a pair of jeans from the English Sports Shop. The goods were worth a total of $563.45.
Eve pleaded not guilty to a string of additional charges that alleged she obtained a range of other clothing items, cell phones and car accessories to a value of $2,885. The Director of Public Prosecutions agreed that these charges should lie on file. Mr. Justice Ground granted bail, but warned Eve: "There's a strong, strong possibility of a custodial sentence in a case like this." He ordered pre-sentence reports.
