Housing Ministry will celebrate Loughlands development tomorrow
Gombeys will dance along South Shore in Paget Saturday afternoon to mark the completion of the Government affordable housing scheme Loughlands. Tomorrow the Ministry of Housing will celebrate the culmination of a four-phase development project which started in 2007.
The procession will take place tomorrow between 3.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. The Ministry apologised in advance for any inconvenience it might cause. Two Gombey troupes will march from the former Harmony Club and the Elbow Beach Resort parking lot to the Loughlands develpment.
In total 96 affordable homes have been built on the seven-acre Paget plot. Plans outlined that the property would have 28 three-bedroom homes and 68 two-bedroom homes.
According to The Royal Gazette records, the project was expected to cost approximately $50 million. Government was due to pay developer Gilbert Lopes 21 days after the receiving residency certificates for units after each phase was completed. The Ministry then expected to sell the units to individuals who qualified through the Bermuda Housing Corporation. The homes were expected to cost approximately $500,000 each.
The Ministry did not respond yesterday when asked if the details had changed for the final phase.
