Legends of Ice skaters ready to Salchow

It has been 30 years since Bermuda has seen a real ice rink on the Island but the members of Legends on Ice believe it was worth the wait.

Some would say it is like skating on a postage stamp for these seasoned skaters but they all insisted that despite modifying their routines to fit the smaller rink the Island will still see spins, jumps, flips, throws and much more.

It took two days to make the ice for the show. Special equipment had to be flown down and the rink had to be built layer by layer.

New technology, compressors, anti freeze and a whole lot of patience was required to make sure the rink was skate worthy and seamless.

The group has been brought down as part of DNA Entertainment?s Family Extravaganza series. This is the second show that has been brought to to Bermuda.

Executive Producer, Bonnie Jo Parker, said the show has a little bit of Cirque du Soleil, a little bit Champions on Ice, a little bit of comedy and a whole lot of entertainment.

Adagio pairs skaters Paul Kimzey and Jessica Ferguson said the best part of the show is the creativity.

?Bonnie is the only producer that really lets us show people what we can do,? Jessica said. ?We can express ourselves and be very creative. It?s really refreshing.?

The pair received rave reviews in New York papers when they performed a Phantom of the Opera number in the city. Mr. Kimzey said he is really excited to be on the Island because this is his first time out of North America.

?I was really surprised when they told me there hasn?t been ice on the Island for 30 years,? he said. ?It was something I couldn?t pass up.?

Mr. Kimzey and Ms Ferguson arrived on the Island yesterday and got straight to work at Tiger Bay finalising their routine.

The 17 member cast will stay at the Grotto Bay Hotel while on the Island. They are looking forward to taking in some sights and sounds as well as putting on an amazing show.

Peter Kongkasem, who recently competed in the 2006 World Figure Skating Championship for Thailand said he is particularly interested in St. George?s.

?I?ve heard all this stuff about it being the first western town and I want to check it out,? he said. ?I also want to go to the beaches. Bermuda just seems like a really cool place.?

Ms Parker said the 18 members would spend the next two days perfect their routines before the show opens on Friday. It will ruin for three days, for information about tickets go to www.dnashows.com.

?It?s going to be great. We have back flips and jumps, loads of great routines,? Ms Parker said. ?We also have someone that juggles and a comedy number. There will be something for everyone.?
