Breaking News: Tourists attacked and injured

Three tourists were attacked and injured during two burglaries at hotels this morning, one of which involved a man armed with a bladed weapon.

According to the Police, an unknown man got into a guest room at the Wharf Hotel in Paget around 4 a.m.

“The intruder demanded money from the occupant and made good his escape with a quantity of cash,” explained a Police spokesman.

“The victim, a 28-year-old Australian man, was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. The visitor’s injuries are not life threatening.”

At 5.10 am, Police were called to an armed burglary at the Grotto Bay Hotel, in Hamilton Parish.

“It appears that an unknown man brandishing a bladed article and a blunt object gained entry into a guest room at the premises,” explained the spokesman.

“The intruder demanded money from the occupants and made good his escape with a quantity of cash. The victims, a 60-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman, who are husband and wife, were injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.”

The injuries to the couple, who are from America, are not believed to be life-threatening, he added.

The culprit in the Wharf Hotel incident is described as a dark-skinned man of slim build, approximately 5’8” tall. Meanwhile, the culprit in the Grotto Bay attack is described as a six-foot tall man wearing a black hat.

Anyone with information about the first incident should contact Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011, and anyone with information about the second should call St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222.
