Firearms brandished in two attacks
A 50-year-old Sandys man was attacked outside his home on New Year’s Day.Police say two men hit the Sandys man and brandished a gun at 2am on Broome Street, Sandys. A spokesman said: “As he was exiting his car, two men came out of the bushes and attacked him. The victim states that one of the men brandished what is believed to be a firearm and made demands of money.“The man was then hit in the face and then the two men proceeded to drag him 75 yards in front of Sandys Middle School where there was a New Year’s function going on.”The man broke free of the robbers and went into the school where a church group was holding a function.An ambulance was called and the man was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and treated for lacerations and swelling to his lips.Police are investigating the incident and have asked witnesses to contact 2950011, or the independent Crime Stoppers number 8008477.A man brandishing what appeared to be a gun demanded money from a business in Smiths on Sunday.Police said the man entered the Devil’s Hole Hill premises at 12.30pm on January 2.A police spokesman said: “It is unclear whether or not he made off with anything but no one was injured.”Inquires into this incident are underway.
