Bermuda aim to end tour with a win

Kevin Hurdle: Has led the attack well.

Bermuda will today attempt to salvage some sort of respectability while continuing their whirlwind international tour of Africa and the Middle East when they challenge United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the ICC Intercontinental Cup in Abu Dhabi.

While their brief experience in four-day cricket hasn't rewarded them with much success, coach Gos Logie will hoping that this four-day clash will finally see their fortunes change.

Logie will be encouraging his squad to drive to produce the inspiring play that they pulled off during last week's first innings against Kenya, when David Hemp came within three runs of a century as Bermuda piled on an impressive first innings score of 281, only to eventually lose by eight wickets after an indifferent batting display the second time around that produced just 178.

With the wicket expected to assist the batsmen, Bermuda can still go into this contest with some momentum from the Kenya match but their main challenge will be to perform with far more consistency. Coach Gus Logie has repeatedly urged his batsman to take a more sensible approach, rather than throwing away their wickets cheaply.

Bermuda bowlers also turned in a credible performance against Kenya, with Kevin Hurdle once again spearheading the pace attack and Dwayne (Sluggo) Leverock again proving to be Mr. Consistent by pinning down the batsmen with his cunning deliveries.

But others bowlers have to join the duo and impress, notably Malachi Jones and Rodney Trott who both continue to have up and down spells.

Bermuda should expect UAE to be formidable opponents, the hosts playing their third ICC Intercontinental Cup fixture. The game against Scotland lasted a mere 46 overs while they were trounced by Canada in Toronto by an innings and 228 runs.

UAE have long put Canada's whopping defeat behind them, attributing the emphatic loss to exhaustive travel, lack of practice and conditions which were extremely alien to them.

Skipper Saqib Ali has publicly stated that his team would be approaching the match seriously and use it as vital practice as they prepare to reach other qualifying goals.
