A week after gaining their first positive result -- a 1-1 draw against KPMG -- Commercial Division minnows Exiles provided an even bigger shock on Saturday when they upset high-riding BAA Wanderers, booting them from the Commercial Division Knock-out Cup.

Penalties were required to decide this hard-fought affair at BAA Field controlled for the most part by the home side, however cup competitions often prove great equalisers and this was certainly the case over the weekend, as the cellar-dwelling Exiles rose to take a major bite out of BAA's pie.

The end of regulation saw the sides tied at 1-1, but the visitors were more accurate with their spot kicks, running out easy 4-2 victors.

A game Exiles fought valiantly during regulation, finally being rewarded with the go-ahead score minutes from the end when Craig Tyrell latched onto a lobbed pass out of midfield that barely eluded the head of the last defender.

Tyrell showed great composure in beating goal-keeper Phillip Bolton to his left from close range.

Nevertheless, the never-say-die Wanderers stormed back and were back on level terms less than a minute after falling behind.

From the kick-off Wanderers marched into their opponents' penalty area and after a brief scramble that saw Exiles fail to adequately clear the danger, Steve Irvine pounced on a loose ball, sliding a low drive under the body of goal-keeper Lyndon Raynor.

Raynor, though, came good during the ensuing penalty shoot-out, saving Gary Flood's blast to his right and watching with glee as Irvine sent the fourth attempt wide. Paul Motram and Stuart Drake successfully converted, but it was a case of too little too late as Exiles were perfect in their placement with Allan Johnson, Tyrell, Shawn Simmons and Marvin Hassan all beating Bolton.

The opening affair at the same venue witnessed no such late drama. In fact the result was squared away even before the half-time whistle as North Village Rams laid waste to winless Belco 8-2, with the score-line 5-0 at the break.

Team-leading goal-scorer Danny Rogers led the carnage with a hat-trick, causing great misery for Belco 'keeper Josh Binns, forced to endure a seemingly endless barrage.

Others finding the mark for Rams were Milgrove Romaine (two), Wendell Baxter, Eugene Smith, Garrett Dill and Allan Smith. Julian Marsh and Kenneth Furbert netted consolation tallies for Belco.

Continuing their slide following an explosive start, one that included a four-goal whipping of Second Division team Hamilton Parish in the FA Cup, were Mariners, who found Robin Hood a nut too hard to crack.

Hood, themselves playing out of character lately after winning the Group A title less than a year ago, ousted the upstart Mariners 2-0, with Dan Miller netting once in each half, the latter via the penalty spot.

Also maintaining a downward spiral were Island Rangers, this time falling to Lobster Pot 1-0.

Ronan Daly popped up with time dwindling to score from an acute angle on the left and ensure his side a quarter-final place.

Devonshire Colts likewise moved into the final eight, thrashing Wolves Pack 3-0 at Frog Lane Field.

Jeff Richardson placed All-Stars ahead in the first half and second half tallies by Marvin Campbell and James Tweed assured them a spot in the next round.

A lone Cal Raynor strike proved enough for St. George's All-Stars in their contest against Prison Officers as the east enders scraped through 1-0.

Similarly, Spinning Wheel edged by KPMG, their hero being Johnny Nusum, who fired home a second-half free-kick that proved unstoppable.

The day's remaining scheduled affair never took place as Somerset Extros failed to show at Shelly Bay Field for their match against Valley.

Yesterday it remained unconfirmed whether Valley would be given the victory, although that would appear the likely scenario.
