Tynes Bay fire aftermath: What trash goes where
Works and Engineering has released details of how trash should be dealt with in the light of recent roadside dumping and an accidental fire following an overflow at Tynes Bay Incinerator.
As part of its What Goes Where campaign, the Ministry will be trying to keep people better informed of how to dispose of its waste.
Most can be used to generate electricity through incineration at Tynes Bay, but such a method cannot be used for items like scrap metal, which instead are recycled or landfilled.
Some waste materials can be reused or recycled, including horticultural waste, blue bag materials, tin, aluminium and glass.
Here is where waste goes:
• Tynes Bay: most commercial, institutional and residential waste
• Marsh Folly: horticultural and some segregated organic waste
• Airport Waste Management Site: scrap metal, PVC pipe, appliances, fill and rubble
• Sallyport in Dockyard: special and hazardous wastes
• Recycling Centre at Government Quarry: tin cans, aluminium cans, glass bottles.
Much material is collected directly from residences, including: regular household waste; recyclables; by appointment household bulky waste like large furniture, metals, wood, plastics.
The public drop-off at Tynes Bay accepts materials destined for the airport site or Dockyard.
