A three-vehicle collision in Flatts Village yesterday afternoon caused long tailbacks as Police struggled to separate the smashed cars.

The passenger side wheels of a Ford were lifted off the road as an elderly driver ploughed into the side of a new Toyota SUV.

No one appeared to be injured in the crash.

?I was going to Hamilton,? the elderly Ford driver said as he examined his crumpled front wheel at the side of the road. ?He swerved out in front of me. I don?t know how that happened.?

The Toyota driver refused to comment but was believed to have waited inside his car for 30 minutes waiting for Police to arrive at the accident scene outside of the Rustico restaurant.

?We have a series of pictures,? the Toyota driver?s friend said.

Staff at the adjacent Shell service station only heard the crash, but claimed the Ford driver was at fault.

?The guy in the beige car pulled over to the restaurant to pick up his wife and the other car struck him,? the Shell staff member said.

A blue Rover which was parked at the side of the road was slightly damaged on the driver?s side.

Police did not responded to enquiries about the crash by Press time last night.
