Pizza man fined for speeding

A speeding pizza-delivery man was handed a hefty fine at Magistrates? Court yesterday ? but avoided losing his bike licence.

Jahroy Simons, 20, who pleaded guilty to three separate cases of speeding, told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that he needed a driver?s licence for his job at Four Star Pizza.

In response, Mr. Warner reprimanded him: ?That?s an excuse for speeding. Pizzas don?t get cold ? they are in a box.?

Simons, of Stovell Lane, Paget, had pleaded guilty to speeding at 71 kph at Frog Lane, Devonshire on December 12, 2005.

He also admitted speeding at 70 kph at Kindley Field Road, St. George?s in October, 2005 and at 63 kph on North Shore Road, Hamilton, on October 18, 2005.

Mr. Warner handed him fines totalling $1,040, and disqualified him from driving motor cars for 12 months.

Woman denies theft

Veteran media personality Ceola Wilson will face trial at Magistrates? Court after pleading not guilty to stealing two pairs of sunglasses.

The shades were allegedly stolen from Esso, Southampton, on Monday.

Wilson, 44, of Middle Road, Southampton, is a former ZBM and VSB presenter. She was granted $500 bail by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ahead of her trial on May 18.

Knife charge denied

A 52-year-old man accused of unlawfully carrying a knife in a public place is set to face trial on the matter at Magistrates? Court.

Edward Tucker is alleged to have committed the offence on January 8 in Glebe Road, Pembroke.

The defendant, of Edgeway Lane, Pembroke, was granted $2,000 with one surety by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.

Man fined $800

A man caught by Police with cannabis in his trousers was fined $800 at Magistrates? Court yesterday.

Crown counsel Wayne Caines had told the court how Police arrested 24-year-old Ricardo Hunt in Court Street, Hamilton, on November 10 last year over a separate matter.

A search of his trousers then revealed a small plastic twist of cannabis in the pocket of his tracksuit bottoms.

Hunt is reported to have said: ?It?s just weed. I forgot it was there.?

Analysis later revealed the twist to contain 1.34 grams of cannabis.

Hunt, of Fentons Drive, Pembroke, was given until March 30 by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner to pay the fine.

No licence is costly

A man who drove without a vehicle or driver?s licence told a court yesterday that he was unaware he was riding an unlicensed bike, as he had borrowed it from a friend.

Kevin Tucker, 26, of Well Bottom, Southampton, pleaded guilty to committing the offences on Parsons Road on December 31, 2005.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined him a total of $350.

Thief steals tools

A thief broke into a Secretary Road, St. George?s property at the weekend and stole tools.

The equipment stolen included a Makita chop saw, a Porter Cable sander, a Porter Cable pancake compressor, a Porter Cable staple gun, two Porter Cable nail guns, a DeWalt hammer drill in a case, a DeWalt sander as well as a Panasonic DVD player/radio.
