There are many college students struggling to pay for their tuition and the additional required resources that add to the cost.The lack of funds has forced some to drop out or take a semester break in order to work.With so many of them discouraged in reaching their career goals there are Christians who are pulling together to help aid them in their time of need.Community outreach worker Carol Clarke will be hosting a gospel benefit concert called ‘Rejoice’- to help raise funds for university students studying abroad.The concert will take place this evening at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church at 7pm.Ms Clarke said: “Parents are being made redundant and therefore they have no jobs. The concert will be a lift and people will be revived.”The gospel artists that will be featured in this event will be Toni Robinson, Keith Lee, Chontelle Lee, Malinda Jennings, Dominique Brown, Willard Burch and Desmond Smith.In addition to the featured artists there will be other artists, musicians and dancers.Malinda Jennings who is also organising the concert said: “Firstly that the community will be blessed with the ministry of song, dance and instrumental performance.“Secondly we hope to raise funds which will assist students both locally and abroad with items not included in tuition, room and board.“Students and parents are finding it very difficult in these times to afford the cost of tertiary education.“With redundancies and downsizing, obtaining finances has been increasingly difficult. Even with scholarships, parents still can’t afford the rest of the costs.“We aim to assist in a small way (as little become much as we place it in God’s hands) with helping the students with the secondary expenses such as books, stationery, laptops and other incidentals.”Ms Jennings has assisted with the flyers, programs creation, tickets and preparing the facility for the concert.She said: “I am looking forward to the awesome ministry of our guest artists, and the emphasis that we put on ‘No Child Left Behind’, resonating with our attendees.”Master of Ceremonies will be Gina Spence and the organisers are hoping to make the benefit concert an annual event.The ‘Rejoice’ benefit concert team encourages the public to come out and support. General admission will be a free will donation and patron tickets will be on sale for $25 at the office of Bethel AME Church.Patron tickets can also be purchased at the door on the evening of the concert.
