Miami TV show to turn spotlight on Bermuda
A TV weatherman in Miami will put on Bermuda shorts and give away two tickets from Miami to Bermuda on the ?South Florida Today? show tomorrow.
NBC 6 weatherman Lonnie Quinn will be seen by 1.5 million television viewers as part of a week-long promotion by the Department of Tourism to get Floridians on the new non-stop Miami-Bermuda flight starting March 2.
The flights will operate twice week until June, then five times a week, a Government statement said.
Mr. Quinn?s giveaway will include accommodations and dinner at the Fairmont Southampton. The length of the holiday was not disclosed. Viewers have been invited register for the contest on the programme?s website, www.nbc6.net.
Tourism and Transport Minister Dr. Ewart Brown met with top editors and Latin American diplomats in Miami as part of the Miami flight promotion.
A Government statement said: ?In addition to such outlets as the Miami Herald, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Glamour En Espanol, Caribbean Travel Life and South Florida Community newspaper group, Minister Brown also hosted dignitaries representing the consulates of Argentina, Brazil and Mexico ? all important feeder countries for the new service.?
Dr. Brown discussed the Tourism Ministry?s plans for promoting Bermuda as a winter golf and spa season and answered questions about ?recent hotel improvements and developments?, new air services and upcoming festivals and sporting events.
?These editors are some of the top influencers in Miami and they were very interested to hear about both the new service and Bermuda?s readiness to welcome South Florida residents to our shores,? Dr. Brown said.
