Patrice Morgan: To offer sewing tutorials

If you’ve ever popped the button on your work blouse on the day of a big meeting or bent over to find your pants have ripped down the middle, then you will uderstand the importance of having some basic sewing skills under your belt.Patrice Morgan, the founder of Showoff Magazine and the new accessory label ‘Bermuda Born’, will be walking the public through some stylish sewing tutorials.Starting tomorrow, the workshops will be held on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons at CV Cafe in St George’s.Ms Morgan will be leading people on two-and-a-half hours of instruction, including fabric and supplies, for $50. The only thing participants have to being is their own sewing machines. Each person will leave with finished products and patterns, which they can use on their own at home.“More and more people are looking for ways to refurbish what they have or create their own products in these difficult economic times,” Ms Morgan said.“They are now learning to become more self-sufficient and I thought that sewing would be one key skill in this equation.”Ms Minors has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Design and an FDA in Accessory Design. She said she always enjoyed sewing as a teenager and would be “immensely proud” to see her finished products.“In addition to having fun while learning a new skill, this joy is something that I’d like for others to experience,” she said. The Fashion Workshops are mainly geared toward beginners, but are suitable for intermediate sewers.Participants will learn to create household items like placemats and coasters for a table setting, as well as fashionable pieces like an oversized clutch purse or a sheer kaftan.Drop-ins are welcomed but participants are encouraged to sign-up online to reserve a space, as class sizes are limited and are filled on a first come, first served basis. For more information, visit www.patricemorgan.com or www.facebook.com/fashionworkshopbermuda.
