VETERAN MP GOES TO ANNIVERSARY CON Veteran MP goes to anniversary Minister of Delegated Affairs the Hon. Sir John Sharpe will represent Bermuda at a meeting to mark the 40th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne.

Sir John, and Lady Sharpe, will attend the conference of the UK Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in London and Swansea beginning on Sunday.

The theme of the conference will be "The Future of Parliamentary Democracy in the Commonwealth and the Contribution of the CPA''.

Sir John will also meet the Queen, the Lord Chancellor, the Speaker and senior ministers.

SEPTEMBER PRICES UP TO 3.1 PERCENT FIN September prices up to 3.1 percent Inflation jumped to 3.1 percent in September, the latest Government figures have revealed.

The increase marked the highest point the annual rate has reached since last October.

The annual rate has gone up from 2.6 percent in August. The monthly change, from August to September, was 0.7 percent.

Increases in school fees were a big influence on the figures while food prices also increased, said a Finance Ministry spokesman.

The figures show a basket of goods and services costing $130 in July, 1990 costs more than $140.60 now.

ORD ROAD GROCERY HIT BY BURGLARS CRM Ord Road grocery hit by burglars Police reported that a large quantity of liquor and cigarettes were stolen during a break-in at Ord Road Grocery Store, in Paget.

There was also a burglary in a house on Vickers Bay Road, Devonshire, where $29 was stolen from a wallet and a purse.

BAKERY EMPLOYEE STOLE TO PAY BILLS CTS Bakery employee stole to pay bills Former Hamilton Parish delivery man Dennis Irvine Bell resorted to theft from his employer to pay his bills.

Bell, 29, yesterday admitted stealing $300 on July 15 from the Cottage Bakery in Smith's Parish when he appeared before Magistrates' Court.

Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said Bell, who no longer works for the bakery, took the money from an office drawer and desk.

He said told Police he was behind with his bills. The money was later returned. The Wor. John Judge fined Bell $300.

The Wor. John Judge on Thursday told Louella Cann, 32: "You really should get off cannabis.'' When defendants in the courtroom began to giggle, he added: "It's not funny.

It does your brain an awful lot of damage.

"You will make yourself into a schizophrenic in a few years.'' Cann, of Upland, Devonshire admitted having 0.23 grammes of cannabis and cigarette papers to roll it in. She was fined $200.

Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said that on June 23 Police searched a house in Middle Road, Paget, the home of a friend of Cann.

BURST PIPE FLOODS HERON BAY SHOPS FIR Burst pipe foods Heron Bay shops Firefighters used water vacuums to remove a quarter inch depth of water from shops in Southampton on Wednesday night.

The water had poured into Mr. Chicken restaurant and the Market Place store, in Heron Bay Plaza, when a pipe burst.
