‘We aim to make this the most comprehensive lifestyle app in Bermuda’
By Rebecca Zuill
This Week in Bermuda’s (TWiB) team are determined their brand new, free-to-download app will be the ‘go-to’ digital address for visitors and residents to find out about attractions, shopping, events, businesses, beaches, eating and drinking, nightlife, accommodations and real estate, activities, tours as well as getting around.
TWiB editor Candice Dickinson said: “We aim to make this the most comprehensive lifestyle app in Bermuda.”
Front and centre for TWiB publications, both in print and online, is Claire Hattie’s ‘Nothing To Do In Bermuda?’ calendar. “And the app’s Calendar of Events is also a feed from the popular ‘Nothing to do in Bermuda?’ website — although users must have a wifi connection to access it.
“The calendar in the app has all the same great features as the full website. You can also add events to your calendar, share to Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn, e-mail details to yourself or your friends, and more. There is also a handy map feature for those events which are off the beaten track. And of course, the content is updated frequently so we can boast the most up-to-date and accurate events calendar in Bermuda,” she said.
“Users can also download all content and use that information and phone numbers offline. The full website is already a responsive design, meaning that it will adapt to whatever device you are viewing it on, but having the calendar section as part of the TWiB app seemed like a perfect partnership,” she said.
Other information on the app includes bus and ferry schedules, and sub categories including ship wrecks and historical sites. In addition: “Make sure Google Mapping is selected in settings and enjoy viewing a location on a Google map or the convenience of routing also using Google maps. Share a personalised postcard via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter or just save to your device,” said Ms Dickinson.
Ms Dickinson said that the great benefit of the app is that the TWiB team can include a large amount of information.
TWiB’s editor added: “We are offering all public vendors the opportunity to have a basic presence on our app. This will include contact details, location mapping and one tag. The sky’s the limit with the app. We want people (who have businesses and events) to download our app and give us their details,” she said.
A premium presence for a yearly fee, which Ms Dickinson described as ‘small’ includes a description, address, phone number, website, social media links, multiple tags, location mapping and multiple images to paid advertisers on the app.
The editor said: “We control the app ourselves, so if there are changes, it can be updated fast — on the same day or week. We’ve already worked really hard to put everything on. We want people to come forward, and if there is information that needs to be changed or added, we can do that — so it can be the most comprehensive app in Bermuda.”
Ms Dickinson said to submit a basic company contact listing, correct an existing listing or enquire about premium listing options and advertising opportunities e-mail app@twib.bm
The TWiB App can be downloaded by searching “This Week in Bermuda” on iPhone, Android & iPad.
