Firefighters were called to King's Court just before 11 a.m. and took nearly half an hour to extinguish the flames.

One room in the block was gutted and various items of furniture and old clothing were destroyed.

The flames also burnt through the ceiling and damaged the floor of the room immediately above.

The building had been derelict for some time and nobody was injured in the incident.

Fire officers are now investigating how the fire started.

MAN FINED $500 CTS Man fined $500 A 19-year-old Pembroke man was fined $500 yesterday in Magistrates' Court after he pleaded guilty to possessing marijuana and two rocks of crack cocaine.

Jermaine Lovell of Fruitland Lane admitted the offences that occurred on August 8.

Prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said Police executed a search warrant at Lovell's home at 6.10 p.m.

There were other persons in the six-bedroom home and they found Lovell alone in a bedroom on the eastern side.

A search resulted in the recovery of two separate paper twists which were found to contain 0.86 grams of cannabis and 0.43 grams of 80 percent pure crack cocaine.

COUPLE IN COURT CTS Couple in court The couple charged in connection with the death of a five-month-old baby appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Sharina Anne Tuzo, 18, and Jermaine Noel Pearman, 26, both of Bob's Valley, Sandys Parish, are charged with manslaughter and murder, respectively, in the death of Saed Rami Nadir Young.

The baby suffered a fractured skull and collarbone and was on life support for a short time before dying.

The couple, who were denied bail, will return to court on November 7 to set a date for a long form preliminary inquiry.
