Netts flex muscles in one-sided affair
Sunday League following a 51-10 massacre of AICO at Bernard Park.
It took just one quarter for 7-Up Netts to score the required goals as they led 17-1 and AICO showed few signs of breaking out of the doldrums.
The total moved to 24-5 at the half and the only matter in question was whether Netts would reach the 50 goal plateau. They did courtesy of Bismallah Sharrief, who tallied 33, while Antoinette Williams and Dawnette Smith contributed 14 and four respectively.
7-Up Netts at six points now lead sister side Netts and Olympic Panthers by two points, although the latter has a game in hand.
Panthers kept pace due to a hard earned 33-28 triumph over pesky Wolves, who gave them all they could handle.
In the end it was the shooting of Jimela Johnson (18) and Terry Quinn (15) winning out over their opponents.
Netts, meanwhile, incurred a much more tranquil outing against winless Cooper & Lines, winning handily by a margin of 57-8.
Kimale Pitt was constantly on target scoring 27 goals to lead three players in double figures as Gina Christopher (17) and Shallan Dennis (13) aided in the chase.
Elaine Simmons tossed in six for Cooper & Lines and Julie Richardson two to round out their scoring.
The day's closest and most exciting affair involved Boulevard and PCC, and had the latter produce a dramatic come-from-behind victory.
Leading through the first three quarters -- albeit narrowly -- the Boulevard women were seen to wilt under pressure in the final period, that allowed PCC to sneak in for the win.
Chenita Zuill (15) and Dawnette Daniels (nine) carried the scoring load for Boulevard, but were outgunned by the opposing trio of Karen Jones (27), Leslita Simmons (seven) and Erika Russell (five).
The Saturday League continues to shape up as a three-horse battle involving 7-Up Netts, PCC and defending champions AICO.
Each recorded lopsided wins and stand undefeated heading into an off week that has instead an Inter-squad round-robin taking place.
