to the Under-23 squad drug incident in Miami.

Police suspicions of a local connection grew after a team of officers -- headed by Chief Insp. Winston Esdaille -- flew to Miami on December 10, the day after seven soccer players were arrested and charged with importing and possessing marijuana.

The officers interviewed the seven players, Meshach Wade, Donnie Charles, Kevin Jennings, Herbert Dillas, Shawn Riley, Keishon Smith, and Tokia Russell.

And upon the officers return to Bermuda, Police spokeswoman Insp.

Police abandon probe into Miami affair's possible local connection From Page 1 Roseanda Jones said the investigation was by no means complete.

"We are continuing to keep close liaison with Dade County Police and United States Customs officials,'' Insp. Jones said at that time.

"We have not ruled out the possibility that aside from those arrested other persons locally could be involved in this inquiry.'' Local lawyers also told The Royal Gazette the Police probe was likely to focus on a possible conspiracy to import marijuana to Bermuda.

There were two possible breaches of Bermuda's Misuse of Drugs Act, they said.

But yesterday Insp. Jones said: "We are not doing any further investigation of the matter''.

There was also no word on when the players -- who this week had drug importation charges against them dropped and pleaded "no contest'' to possessing marijuana -- would return home.

They were thought to be awaiting the necessary travel documentation.
