Keeper Kevin denies Trojans
Colts survived an onslaught from luckless Trojans to come away from Somerset Cricket Club with the three points which moved them up to third place in the Premier Division.
A Shannon Burgess penalty and two late goals from striker Aljame Zuill gave the team known as the `Hallowe'en Kids' a timely success.
But it was a spectacular display of shot-stopping by Colts goalkeeper Kevin Bean which prevented Trojans from converting their tricks into goal treats for the fans.
The result left Trojans still winless and with only a solitary point to show from their first four games of the league campaign.
Trojans were dominant in the first half and it was a travesty of justice that they went in at the break 1-0 down. And to make matters worse for the west enders, the goal came from a controversial penalty.
Trojans goalkeeper Timmy Figureido came rushing to the right edge of his penalty area and went down in a heap with Colts striker Clevon Hill. Referee Gregory Simons pointed to the spot after consulting with his linesman.
Colts skipper Burgess stayed characteristically cool and slotted his 32nd-minute spot-kick into the centre of the net as Figureido dived to his right.
Just a minute after the goal, Bean produced a magnificent reflex save to keep Colts' lead intact.
Karl Roberts hit a low shot which was deflected into the air and met with a powerful diving header from six yards by Michael Brangman. Bean hurled himself to his left and plucked the goal-bound ball out of the air to draw gasps from the crowd.
Five minutes before the interval, Roberts curled a 22-yard free-kick over Colts' defensive wall and towards the top left-hand corner, but again Bean's agility kept it out.
Bean wasn't the only reason Trojans failed to score. Early on, Jermaine Dill completely miscued his shot from six yards after being teed up by Steven Mendes and Colts defender Jahmah Samuels cleared a fiercely struck cross by David Burchall from under his own crossbar.
Colts' second serious goal attempt came in the 43rd minute, when Marvin Belboda's left-wing cross was headed straight at Figureido by the stooping Hill.
Somerset continued to apply most of the pressure in the second half, but still their efforts were fruitless.
First substitute Arthur Tucker made a fine run down the left and shot low from 12 yards, but Bean came hurtling off his line to make another superb save.
Then Bean made a rare mistake when he misjudged the flight of a Tucker free kick, allowing Roberts to head the ball into the six-yard box where Brangman headed goalwards but straight at Bean.
But the `Hallowe'en Kids', so nicknamed for their orange and black colours, made Trojans pay for their profligacy with two more fine goals.
Marvin Belboda created the first in the 73rd minute by stealing the ball from Harry Hunt, dribbling past Roberts and even though Figureido kept out his shot, he was helpless to prevent Zuill slotting in the rebound from close range.
After Bean had beaten away a ferocious Roberts drive to preserve his well-earned clean sheet, Zuill produced the goal of the match eight minutes from time.
Last season's top scorer in the top flight controlled a long ball and unleashed a terrific volley from 20 yards which flew over Figureido and dipped into the top left-hand corner.
