An appeal for the public to wear blue today (FRI) to mark World Children’s Day during the year’s “global child rights crisis” has been made by a charity.

A Family Centre spokeswoman said schools around the island would hold a grub day to help support the charity’s programmes for vulnerable children and families.

Sandy De Silva, the executive director of the charity, said the Covid-19 pandemic exposed “deep inequalities in our society that leave some children much more at risk than others”.

She added the theme of this year’s event was is reimagine a better future for every child.

Dr De Silva said Family Centre had already seen “an increase in the demand for therapeutic services, especially case management”.

She added: “Families are putting up their hands to receive the help they need rather than suffer in silence.

“This data supports the ongoing need for our programmes and services to be provided at no out-of-pocket cost to families.”

Dr De Silva said the next year would require “further innovation, adjustment and energy” to meet increased needs.
