Hood held in season opener

Hood eventually broke away and won the league by seven points, shared the points in their opening Division A match of the Commercial League on Saturday.

Simon Turner fired champions Hood in front in the 32nd minute before substitute Troy Furbert equalised for Fire in the 72nd.

Newly-promoted PHC, comfortable winners of Division B last season, got off to a flying start, hammering Exiles 7-3 despite trailing 2-0 in the first 10 minutes before leading 4-2 at the half.

Des Minors opened his season with four goals while Keith Bell, Stevie Tucker and Youssef Bousetta all got one apiece.

Former champions BAA Wanderers edged MR Onions 3-2 with Dean McIntyre netting twice and Thomas Gribben the other for Wanderers while Keith Donald and Peter Duffield replied for Onions.

Prison Officers shared the points with Vasco Mariners in a 2-2 draw as Millard Rawlins and Gary Ray scored for the Officers. In the other match Lobster Pot and North Village Rams drew 0-0.

In the B Division, Tuff Dogs celebrated their entry into the Commercial League with a 7-2 hammering of Devonshire Lions.

Nathan Brown and Kevin Mooney each scored twice while Mark DeCoute, Joe Carolo and Miguel Daponte also tallied in the big win. For 10-man Lions, Anthony Amory and Ernest McCallan hit the target.

Valley smashed Belco 6-1 with Kevin McNeil scoring a hat-trick and Shawn Smith two while Raymon Burrows netted the other for Valley. Sandy Boyles replied from the penalty spot for Belco.

Clarkie Trott scored four times and James Tweed the other as Devonshire All-Stars defeated Wolves Pack 5-1. Casey Burgess replied for Wolves.

St. George's All-Stars won by default over Somerset Extros who showed up at Wellington Oval with just six players.
