Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said officers patrolling the Mills Creek area on July 3, noticed the car sitting in Purvis Limited's driveway. On closer inspection, they saw that the front area of the vehicle was extensively damaged.

The owner of the car, Antone J. Thompson of Cottage Hill, Hamilton Parish, was called into the Hamilton Station to make a statement.

Thompson told Police he fell asleep at the wheel, and crashed into a stone wall at the junction of Pitts Bay Road and Mill Reach Road.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis imposed a $200 fine on the 28-year-old.

POLICE IN PROBE OF CITY BREAK-INS CRM Police in probe of City break-ins Police are investigating a series of break-ins at businesses in Hamilton this week.

Money was stolen from cash registers in two businesses on King Street. The burglars took $243 from one and $50 from the other on Thursday. An attempt was also made to break into a shop in nearby Front Street.

Detectives making observations in the city arrested a 37-year-old Pembroke man in connection with the theft of newspapers from a vendor.

DOMINICAN FILED FALSE THEFT REPORT CTS Dominican filed false theft report A young Dominican national, who Police say was "encouraged by another person'' to file a false report with them, was handed a $300 fine yesterday.

The court heard that on the evening of October 8, Hunyadi Vidal telephoned Hamilton Police Station from Court Street to report that his cycle had been stolen outside The Spinning Wheel.

An hour and a half after Police placed a "look out'' for the vehicle, the Prospect, Devonshire resident called back to say he had found the bike.

The next morning, the 21-year-old was questioned at the Hamilton Station about inconsistencies in his story, and finally admitted a person who committed offences while using the cycle told him to report it stolen.

Officers became concerned after she disappeared from home on Thursday afternoon.

MAN ADMITS OFFENSIVE WORDS CTS Man admits offensive words A 30-year-old man admitted using offensive words in public in Magistrates' Court on Friday, but insisted he only swore at a particular Police officer because of previous harrassment.

Insp. Peter Duffy, procecuting, said Dean Sinclair Burgess was sitting with a group of men in the car park along Front Street on October 31 when he recognised two plain-clothes officers sitting in their car nearby.

The Reid Street resident began cursing at one of the men, continuing to do so even after he was given a warning.

In his own defence, Burgess said the same officer had stopped him along Crow Lane only three nights before, and told him he was being arrested on suspicion of breaking and entering. Burgess said another Police car pulled up soon afterwards and told the first officer he had the wrong man.

Explaining his actions of last week, Burgess said he was not the one who instigated the confrontation.

"We were just sitting off playing cards and the same officer started to say things to me,'' he told the court. "That's why I said those words.'' Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Burgess $300.
