Drunk man breaks into Summerhaven
A man broke into an apartment to sleep off a drinking binge, a court heard.
Jahewing Dellon Adams, 25, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to trespass of a dwelling house.
Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said Adams broke into the Summerhaven Trust apartment in Smith's on Saturday morning.
"The wiring in the door had been cut and the defendant was found sleeping on a makeshift bed," she said.
Staff ordered Adams to leave the premises and he was then apprehended by Police as he walked along a nearby road. He admitted breaking into the apartment in a Police interview.
"He said he only entered the room to sleep," said Ms Clarke.
Adams told the court: "I just got drunk with 'my boy'. I was drunk."
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a Social Inquiry Report and adjourned the case until May 29.
Cabbie robbed Saturday afternoon
Passengers attacked a taxi driver and made off with cash from his wallet. The attack sent the driver to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he received treatment for minor injuries.
According to Police, the incident occurred around 3.20 p.m. at the junction of Palmetto Road and Parsons Lane in Devonshire.
Said a spokesperson: "On arrival officers spoke with a taxi driver who stated that earlier he picked up five individuals in the Hermitage Road area.
"The passengers stated that they wanted to be taken to Cedar Park Road. "During the journey a struggle ensued with the driver and two of the male passengers. "During the struggle one of the suspects took the taxi driver's wallet, containing a quantity of cash, and then all five individuals fled the scene on foot."
A 22-year-old Smith's parish man has since been arrested. Inquiries are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.
Cyclists collide on South Road, Paget
Riders travelling in opposite directions on auxiliary cycles collided on South Road in Paget. The accident occurred at approximately 10.20 p.m., near the junction with Southcote Road.
"The rider of the eastbound cycle, a 24-year-old Sandys parish woman, sustained abrasions to both knees, while the rider of the westbound cycle, a 16-year-old young man from Warwick, sustained abrasions to both knees and arms," a Police spokesperson said. "Both cycles received extensive front end damage."
Inquiries are underway.
Twenty road accidents over the weekend
Over the Easter weekend there were 20 reported traffic accidents, nine of which resulted in injury.
There were also six people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and five reported burglaries. Ten vehicles were reported stolen.
Jobless man stole titanium rings
A St. George's man who admitted stealing two rings from a jewellers told a magistrate he did it because he can't get a job.
Sinclair Fox, 60, swiped the titanium rings valued at $315 in total from the counter of E.R. Aubrey in York Street, St. George's on Wednesday. Crown counsel Robert Welling told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that Fox was arrested a short distance away.
The items were still on him, with their price labels attached. Fox admitted the theft during a Police interview and pleaded guilty when he appeared at court on Thursday. He has similar previous convictions. Pointing out that he is only recently out of prison, Mr. Tokunbo asked Fox what his problem is.
He replied that he stole to buy food, explaining: "It's pretty hard to get a job because I've got a bad hip. I used to do construction work before I broke my hip."
Mr. Tokunbo asked for pre-sentence background reports to be prepared, and adjourned the case until May 21.
Bike crash teenager arrested
A teenager was arrested after he was involved in a single vehicle accident on South Road.
Around 4.50 a.m. on Saturday, Police attended the scene in Paget near the junction with Tankfield Hill.
It appeared that an auxiliary cycle was travelling west on South Road when the rider, a 16-year-old boy from Warwick lost control and collided with the sidewalk.
The teenager sustained abrasions to his face, hands and legs. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. The auxiliary cycle was extensively damaged.
Man hurt as two cars and bike collide
A three vehicle crash resulted in one man being hospitalised for his injuries.
Around 9.45 p.m. on Thursday, Police attended the reported road accident on Middle Road in Sandys parish near the junction with Store Lane involving two cars and an auxiliary cycle.
According to Police it appeared that a car and the auxiliary cycle were travelling east on Middle Road with the car in front of the cycle and the other car was travelling in the opposite direction when all three vehicles collided.
The rider of the auxiliary cycle, a 40-year-old Warwick man, complained of pain to his right leg and back.
He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment and released the following day.
The drivers of both cars, a 51-year-old Sandys parish man and a 26-year-old Sandys parish man, were not injured.
All three vehicles were extensively damaged.
