Dickinson and Young defend title

The team of Stevie Dickinson and Pat Young successfully defended their Bacardi Bermuda International Invitational Race Week (BIIRW) title in the double handed Comet fleet at the weekend.The pair won all but one of the six-race series which they completed six-points ahead of nearest rivals Dimitri Stevens and Tremaine Bean. Rockal Evans and crew Christina Barnard finished a further two points adrift in third.Dickinson and Young were by far the most consistent team on the Bravo Course in the Great Sound, piling up an impressive five bullets and finishing no lower than second.Meanwhile past Olympian Malcolm Smith currently leads the single handed Laser fleet by four points over nearest rival Brett Wright with Sara Lane Adderley holding down third spot after four races. Another past Olympian, Jesse Kirkland, is currently 10th in the 16-boat Laser fleet.Promising sailor Chase Cooper has a three-point lead over Benn Smith after 11 races in the Optimist Gold Fleet while Jay Hall leads the Silver Fleet. The Optimists are making their first BIIRW appearance and are competing in a sister regatta which has been dubbed the AES Ltd Optimist BIIRW.Giles Peckham leads the International One Design (IOD) fleet on the Alpha Course after three races in the ‘A’ Series with defending champions John Burnham and Peter Rugg currently eighth.William Thompson has a three-point cushion over nearest rival Mark Watson III in the Etchells who are competing for the KF Trimingham Trophy. Tim Patton, who currently sits in third in the Etchells fleet after six races, is making his 40th consecutive BIIRW appearance this year.BIIRW racing continues today.
