Sprinter qualifies for champs

Young Bermuda sprinter Scott Clarke has qualified for this year’s World Youth Championships in the 100 metres.Teenager Clarke ran the 100m in a time of 11.11 seconds at a track meet at the National Sports Centre at the weekend, and joins fellow sprinter Jeneko Place who has already qualified for the competition.The World Youth Championships will be held in Lille, France, between July 6-10.Also at the weekend, Henry Stevens-Carty qualified for the Carifta Games while competing for the University of Samford at the JRF Invitational in Clemson. He placed fifth out of 32 runners in the 800m in a time of 1:55.82.Aaron Evans continued his promising start to his season with a victory in the 800m in 1:50.49 at the Big 12 vs SEC Challenge in Texas.At the same event Latroya Darrell, also competing for the University of Georgia, came fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.61m and 11th in the long jump with a jump of 5.49m.Jasmine Brunson competing for Clemson University placed 11th in the long jump with a jump of 5.80m at the Penn State Invitational, and Alison Outerbridge in her freshman year at the University of Tennessee competed in the triple jump with a leap of 11.01m in the same meet.Dage Minors competing for St. Johnsbury High School came second out of 79 competitors in the 1000m in a time of 2:43.80 in a meet at Nowich University. His team also placed first in the 4X400m relay.
